Foundation for Orange County Public Schools golf tournament raises more than $100,000 for area schools
ORLANDO, Fla. (October 8, 2008) – Now in its ninth year, the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools annual golf tournament benefit raised more than $100,000 this year for schools in the district.Proceeds from the event, generated through corporate sponsorships and donations, will be used to support Foundation programs that enhance student achievement – such as Read2Succeed (a second-grade reading/mentoring program) and Middle School Kids (which provides Life Skills curriculum for middle schoolers in the district) -- as well as provide special opportunities to meet in-classroom needs. Over the nine years the golf tournament has been held, the Foundation has raised more than $850,000.
“While we’re proud to help literally build our community through our work, it is vital that our commitment to Orlando and Orange County go beyond just the job we do,” said Randy Bernard, Senior Vice President of Skanska USA Building Inc. in Orlando and Foundation for Orange County Public Schools board member.
“Skanska is pleased to support the continued success of this tournament which contributes to the important work of the Foundation and ultimately helps make a difference for the young people of our community.”
The tournament, which was held on September 19 at ChampionsGate Golf Club, attracted nearly 200 players.Skanska was the title sponsor, and Trane was the presenting sponsor.More than 70 local companies came in as various level sponsors, from meal and beverage cart sponsors to corporate and hole sponsors. TheFoundation for Orange County Public Schools raised more than $100,000 at its annual golf tournament benefit that will go toward programs and resources for students in the district.
