Foundation Gives Grants to Great Teachers
More than 300 teachers have received grants from the Foundation for classroom projects and additional supplies and equipment for the 2009-2010 school year. In ceremonies held at the Orlando Science Center in November, WFTV-Channel 9 Anchor Vanessa Echols helped present over 200 grants totaling more than $160,000. These grants are made possible by the generosity of many corporate donors. READ MORE

Class Reunion
Thousands of Central Floridians went "back to school" in November for the 19th annual Teach-In. Sponsored by Bank of America and Orlando Sentinel, Teach-In is a way for business and civic leaders to talk with students about academics, careers and the future in a fun and engaging way. Across Orange County, 129 schools welcomed over 3,300 volunteers who made more than 5,400 presentations! READ MORE

Get into the Swing and Support the Foundation!
The Foundation’s annual golf tournament – "FORE Our Schools" – is set to take place on Friday, September 17, 2010. Returning to ChampionsGate, this event plays host to over 200 participants on two golf courses. Last year’s tournament netted over $100,000 for Foundation programs. Middle School Kids Training Continues to Meet Tweens’ Needs
Nearly 50 teachers from middle schools across the district were trained to deliver LifeSkills curriculum in two separate sessions held recently. Giving up a Saturday, these dedicated teachers came together to network, learn, and are now better prepared to meet the social and emotional needs of young adolescents. Special thanks go to Avalon Middle School’s Jody Bernier and Mary Cole from Arbor Ridge K-8. Jody and Mary acted as our expert facilitators for this important training. Now in its fifth year, Middle School Kids is aimed at easing the transition from elementary school to young adulthood. READ MORE

Count Me In! Counts on Research to Promote School-Based Family Partnerships
Teams of trained volunteers have begun the important work of interviewing and capturing best practices around family and community involvement. There’s good things happening in our schools and Count Me In! wants to help spread the word. Already we’ve spoken to stakeholders at Wolf Lake Middle, Conway Middle and Elementary, Three Points Elementary, and Hiawassee Elementary with 10 additional schools to follow. Data collected will be publicized and shared with schools and community groups interested in furthering practices that advance student achievement. The First of the Three R’s...Reading
Read2Succeed – the Foundation’s reading mentoring program aimed at struggling second-graders – is enjoying another successful year with more than 375 volunteers working with 450 students at 50 schools. Despite that, there’s still more than 15 schools on our waiting list. Do you have an hour a week for a child? Could you be the one who helps that young boy or girl become more successful in school? Training, coordination, and materials are all provided … all we need is YOU. READ MORE

Rally in Tally - Show Your Support
Join the Orange County Council of PTAs for the Florida PTA 2010 Rally in Tally! On March 25, 2010, busses will leave from the ELC Parking Lot at 445 W. Amelia Street in downtown Orlando – across from the Amway Arena. Boarding begins at 5:30 am, busses leave at 6 am, and will return to Orlando at 8 pm. The rally is from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The cost is $40 per person and includes transportation and snacks. Lunch will be available at local restaurants near the rally site. This is a critical time for education funding and Florida PTA needs as many people to attend this event as possible. READ MORE
