CenturyLink raises over $10,000 for the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools
CenturyLink (formerly EMBARQ) recently held its 18th Annual Executive Golf Event and raised $10,410 for the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools. This year’s event was held Friday, March 26 at the Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, with more than 120 participants including area business customers throughout Central Florida. Executive Director Transition
Craig Evans, Foundation Executive Director since 2008, has announced his resignation. Under his leadership, the Foundation for OCPS has greatly benefitted from various partnerships and friendships, as have the students, teachers, and schools we serve in our community. Heath Wells, the Foundation’s director of community engagement, will serve as interim executive director beginning May 1. A search for a new leader is underway. Click here to read more


  
Foundation for Orange County Public Schools Awards Second Round of Grants to Local Teachers for Creative Classroom Learning Initiatives
Thanks to the support of major corporations, foundations, and matching grants; the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools awarded a second round of cash grants to teachers for classroom supplies and literacy materials. In addition to the $160,000 awarded last fall, over 125 teachers will share over $26,000 to be used primarily for literacy materials and classroom supplies to support learning achievements. Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Announces Grants Partnership with Foundation
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has agreed to fund a new mini-grant program for Orange County Public School teachers, focusing on innovative projects and lessons that incorporate health education into their curriculum.

Foundation Annual Celebration Dinner Set for June 17
The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools will hold its Annual Dinner on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the Orlando Science Center in Loch Haven Park. In addition to the recognition of incoming and outgoing board members, and the installation of new board officers, the program will feature acclaimed student entertainment from across the district and a keynote address by Orange County Public Schools’ Superintendent Mr. Ronald Blocker.

A Place for Families Continues to Compile Research on School-Based Family Partnerships
In an effort to identify, promote, and support school-based family and community partnerships that advance student achievement, Count Me In! (CMI) volunteers have spoken with stakeholders at eight schools. Through structured interviews, teams of trained volunteers are capturing best practices around family and community involvement in Orange County’s public schools. At the conclusion of this research, the synthesized data will be shared with schools and community groups interested in furthering practices that advance student achievement. Click here to read more
