The Progress Energy Math, Science, and Energy Education Grant program offers additional resources to Kindergarten through 12th grade mathematics and science classroom teachers. In 2008, Progress Energy expanded the Math & Science Grant program focus to include energy education projects.

• Math & Science projects for the purchase of equipment and/or materials that directly affect classroom learning in those subject areas: K - 5th grade up to $1,0006th -12th grade up to $2,000
• Energy Education projects for the purchase of equipment and/or materials that directly related to projects focused on energy education:
  
  • K - 5th grade up to $2,000
  • 6th -12th grade up to $3,000

Community and education leaders judge grant applications in a competitive process, with preference given to creative proposals that involve the greatest number of under-performing students.

Since 2001, more than $712,000 has been awarded to OCPS teachers for math, science, energy education projects through the Progress Energy Foundation.
