Mikey Stroz Scholarship Fund

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE MIKEY STROZ SCHOLARSHIP

 

Qualifications are:

  • Graduating Senior
  • Student Lacrosse Athlete in Central Florida - can be male or female
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Ideal candidate: very hard worker who excels in sports, helps the community, is a team player and a coachable athlete and student
  • Short essay written by the student about the above required
  • Recommendation letter from coach of applicant’s choice 
  • Photo and social media info requested (but not required) in order to see athletic highlights and verify that applicant’s character is similar to Mikey’s
​Two scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded.  The family will choose one or two recipients.  Materials are due by Friday, May 14, 2023.  The materials can be sent by email to Debi Pedraza at debi.pedraza@ocps.net OR the fax number is 407-317-6457.

The Mikey Stroz Scholarship Fund was established in loving memory of Mikey Stroz, lacrosse player and Timber Creek High School Class of 2023,  to support education opportunities for students who, like Mikey, exhibit a courageous and well-rounded lifestyle consisting of athletics, academics and activity in the community.  Each spring the Fund will distribute a scholarship to a graduating senior who has been accepted to a college/university or technical college.  Priority will be given to a student athlete, male or female, who has been part of the Central Florida lacrosse family.

If you would like to help, please make a gift online using the form below. If you prefer to give by check, please make it payable to "Foundation for OCPS," write "Mikey Stroz Scholarship" in the memo section, and mail it to the Foundation for OCPS, 445 West Amelia Street, Orlando, FL 32801.  

 

Coach Gordon of Timber Creek High School Lax remembered Mikey this way:
 
"He was such a joy and pleasure to be around. His attitude, work ethic and personality were infectious. As a coach you couldn't have asked for a better player. He was talented, worked hard, and pushed his teammates to be the best they could be. He believed in the coaching staff, his teammates and the Timber Creek Lax program. He helped lead our team by always being an example on and off the field. You always hear how impactful coaches can be in a players life, but in reality players like him impact the lives of coaches just as much. He made coaching fun and easy. His passion to get better and grow the sport was second to none. He will forever be missed but never forgotten... Once a Wolf, Always a Wolf."
