FOUNDATION FOR ORANGE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS RAISES MORE THAN $50,000 AT “ORANGE COUNTY’S TOP TALENT” COMPETITION

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 20, 2013) – The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) is pleased to announce that it raised $53,929 as a result of its second “Orange County’s Top Talent” competition. The event was held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Hard Rock Live venue at Universal CityWalk.

The county-wide talent show welcomed more than a thousand guests who enjoyed eighteen acts featuring singers, dancers, musicians and novelty performances by OCPS students and staff. The 1st place winner, Christian Cuevas of Freedom High School, was also chosen as the “Fan Favorite” based on audience votes. Samuel Ko of Meadow Woods Middle School took the 2nd place prize, followed by Shyandra Spencer of University High School and Teresa Perrotta of Olympia High School, who tied for 3rd place.

“We’re incredibly grateful to those who came out and showed their support for ‘Orange County’s Top Talent’ competition and contestants,” said Cindy Williams, executive director at the Foundation for OCPS. “The contestants rocked the stage with their remarkable performances and most importantly, we raised a significant amount of money for our arts programs.”

Sixty percent of the event’s net proceeds will go to the Foundation to support its literacy, quality teaching, learning support and community engagement initiatives. Forty percent of proceeds will benefit OCPS visual and performing art programs. Last year’s event raised $43,725 for the cause.
