Lori Lovell, Lyric Soprano, holds the degrees Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Ohio University, and Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University in Voice Performance. Currently, Dr. Lovell is the Choral Director at Maitland Middle School within the Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida. Her students have consistently earned Superior ratings in solo and choral music performance assessments at district and local levels and have been invited to perform a world premiere at Carnegie Hall. The Maitland Chorus has also been featured in performances with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park and with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to public school teaching, Lovell has served on the voice faculties of Rollins College, the College of Southern Nevada, the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Ohio University, and West Virginia University.
Dr. Lovell is an active performer in opera and art song recital and has traveled extensively performing the Soprano roles by Mozart, Puccini, and Handel. Additionally, Lovell has done extended research in the songs of the Holocaust and has performed in Holocaust memorial services world-wide.
Lisa Hopko is in her seventeenth year of teaching at Maitland Middle School. Under her direction, the orchestra has grown to four levels of orchestra, symphony orchestra, and a chamber music program. Her orchestras have consistently earned straight superior ratings in the Florida Orchestra Association Music Performance Assessments. She has served as Florida Orchestra Association 7-8 All State Orchestra Chair, District Chair for Orange County and is a certified adjudicator of FOA Music Performance Assessments. She had the honor of conducting All County Orchestras throughout Florida, and has been a member of the faculty for the Florida West Coast Symphony "Summer at the Symphony".
Ms. Hopko is a violist, and has performed with the Brevard Symphony, Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, UCF Orchestra, and Harry Connick, Jr. She is a member of FOA/FMEA, Sigma Alpha Iota, American String Teachers Association and is a National Board Certified Teacher (EAYA-Music). She has also recently joined the faculty of Stetson University as an Instructor of Secondary Orchestral Methods.
Mr. Eric Mendez, a product of Orange County Public Schools, having attended Conway Junior High, Colonial High and Valencia Community College. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Florida State University in 1988. He holds membership in the FBA, NAfME, FMEA, ASBDA, and is National Board certified. He has been awarded the FBA’s Lifetime membership status after completing 25 consecutive years of service in the organization. Since 1988, Mr. Mendez has been teaching middle school band in Central Florida and is in his fourteenth year at Maitland, where his Wind Ensemble has played to musical standards rarely achieved by middle school bands. In 2010 the group was invited to feature performances at FMEA and ASBDA Conventions.
Mr. Mendez has been active as an adjudicator and clinician, serving districts throughout Florida. He has been All-County clinician in several Florida counties. In January 2013, He conducted the Florida 7th and 8th grade All-State Honor Band at the FMEA convention.
