Winter Park - Be the Change

Purpose

To empower our youth and community with educational, experiential and transformational programs. Winter Park High School is diverse. It encompasses many communities in Winter Park and Orlando including Winter Park, Audubon Park, Baldwin Park, Goldenrod, East Orlando, and Maitland. We have students participating in sports, the arts, IB, AP, NJROTC and many career programs. The School Advisory Council (SAC) Board of Winter Park High School (WPHS) has created a fundraising account with the goal of creating a lasting high school community and culture that values diversity, supports differences and builds positive relationships. How we will work to achieve our goal is to provide programs to give our students tools to communicate, adapt and thrive in an ever more complicated world.

At the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, the School Advisory Council Board approved funding for Challenge Day, a program that facilitates breaking down the social and emotional barriers that so many teens experience. The 6.5 hour experiential professionally-led training event is designed to build connection and empathy, and to fulfill our vision that every child feels safe, loved, and celebrated. This training goes beyond traditional anti-bullying campaigns and encourages getting to know and share the real people beneath the surface. Please visit www.challengeday.org to learn more about this life-changing experience.

Please support our Winter Park Consortium middle and high schools -  Winter Park High, Glenridge Middle and Maitland Middle - efforts in continuing to build a caring, informed, tolerant community. While Challenge Day will be the first program of WPHS Be the Change, our goal is to provide programs for years to come based on our students' needs. Our goal moving forward is to see positive student results from Challenge Day activities the Week of February 6, 2017: increased self-esteem; increased academic achievement; increased connection to and within our community; reduced discipline referrals; and quite literally, lives forever affirmatively changed and even saved.
