Student Innovation Grant Application-Now Closed

Student Voice - Student Choice Grant

The Innovation Division is providing two grant opportunities for students to apply in an amount up to $1,000 each.  The purpose of this pilot grant program is to give students a greater “voice” and more “choice” in their learning.  Students will upload a video presentation of their request along with completing the application below.  There are some guiding questions below to support the presentation.  Students need to secure a teacher stakeholder from the school who has agreed to support and help implement the project or unit of study.  The school principal will also have to approve and agree that all dollars will be handled through the school’s internal account and ensure the idea gets implemented.  Teachers can assist students in developing their presentations and it is important that there is clear student “voice” in the application and that the ideas belong to the student(s) submitting the proposal.

Project ideas may involve a classroom unit of study or something that would be implemented outside the classroom or in a club-type setting.  It should be an idea from which many students could benefit and hopefully something that could be sustainable beyond this first year of study or implementation.  The idea is not to fund a field trip (one time event) or guitar lessons (for one student) but really more like a group of students who are interested in learning more about hydroponics and would like to have a small classroom library on the topic along with equipment to start a hydroponics garden.  A group of elementary students and their teacher may be interested in learning more about coding by using a classroom set of Ozobots as part of math lessons.  Students may want to put together a recording studio on their campus that many students could use or they may want to create their own You Tube Channel.  Students may have an idea for a service learning project where they will study a topic such as homelessness but then actually find ways to help.  Other students may want to put together some type of student-run business on their campus. The sky is the limit.  Share your creative ideas - we want to hear from you!
